Piplup (ポッチャマ, Pochama) is a creature in the Pokémon media franchise.

Origin
Piplup (ポッチャマ, Potchama, Pochama) is a fictional creature in the Pokémon media franchise.
Piplup is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in bulbapedia, and along with Chimchar and Turtwig it is one of the bulbapedia of the bulbapedia region, and is categorized within the Pokédex at #393 as the "Penguin Pokémon". It evolves into Prinplup at level 16, which evolves into Empoleon at level 36.

bulbapedia is a special Water-type move with 90 (95 before bulbapedia) base power and 100% accuracy which hits every Pokémon adjacent to the user, including allies. It was bulbapedia in every game prior to bulbapedia, and it was always required to fully complete them. Like most other Water-type Pokémon, Piplup can learn it with HM03.
Creature description
Piplup is a small blue penguin. According to the Pokédex, it lives along shores in northern countries. Its thick down guards it from the cold in such climates. It is a skilled swimmer and is able to dive for over 10 minutes at a time to hunt. It is naturally proud and prideful, and as such hates accepting food from people even when domesticated.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Piplup is one of the three starter Pokémon that a trainer can recieve from Professor Rowan in Pokémon Diamond & Pearl. Piplup resembles a small blue bipedal penguin. Piplup's second evolution is Prinplup, who eventually evolves into Empoleon. In the anime, Dawn chose Piplup as her starter Pokémon after she rescued it from a group of giant Ariados. Piplup had trouble accepting Dawn as its trainer, but eventually began to trust her. Dawn uses Piplup to fight in both battles and in contests.

Piplup makes an appearance in Brawl as a Poké Ball Pokémon, where it uses its Surf attack to glide across the stage until it reaches a blast line or exceeds a time limit. Any character that gets caught in Piplup's surf will get washed away with it and will likely get KO'd while trapped, along with Piplup. The simpler the stage's terrain is, the more effective Piplup's Surf will be. Piplup can also be reflected. Its attack is essentially used the same way as Marill's attack from Melee. Sometimes Piplup will instantly use Surf.

Piplup makes an appearance in Brawl. Piplup uses its surf attack to glide across the stage. Any character that gets caught in Piplup's surf will get washed away with it. The simpler the stage's terrain is, the greater the affect of Piplup's glide will be. Piplup's attack is used basically the same way as Marill's attack.
|desc=A Penguin Pokémon. It's one of the starter Pokémon received from Professor Rowan when the player departs from the Sinnoh region. It's a Water-type, so it's strong versus Rock- and Ground-types. It's very cute but filled with pride--it hates to accept food from people. When it levels up, it evolves into Prinplup.

Piplup does not return as a Poké Ball Pokémon in Smash 4, being replaced by Oshawott in functionality. Piplup appears only in the Wii U version, on the Kalos Pokémon League stage, as one of the Pokémon that appears in the background of the Flood Chamber.

Trophy
Piplup's trophy is part of the Pokémon Diamond & Pokémon Pearl Trophy Box.

When it walks on land, it waddles and even falls over sometimes, all in a suitably cute way. But once it's in the water, you'll see its true potential. It's a skilled swimmer and can dive for over 10 minutes at a time to hunt.
