Marth (マルス, Marusu) will be a playable character in Super Smash Bros. 4. He was announced on the official website on November 7th, 2013. Visually, Marth's appearance has been updated based on his attire from the Japan-only DS game, Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem, Heroes of Light and Shadow.

Confirmed information

  • Buff Shield Breaker is now "much more powerful", though it is unclear if this means it will deal even more shield damage, it received a general power buff, or both. It also now gives Marth a horizontal boost when used in the air, regardless of whether it's charged or not[1], aiding Marth's recovery.
  • Buff Counter appears to have strengthened.
  • Buff Critical Hit deals more damage, dealing 64% instead of 60%.
  • Nerf Marth's sword is now shorter than it was in Brawl.
  • Nerf Forward air deals less damage and appears to have greater landing lag.
  • Nerf All throws have stronger knockback, which lessens Marth's follow-up options after a grab.
    • Change Down throw sends foes at an upwards trajectory.
  • Nerf A number of Marth's moves (e.g. dash attack, down aerial, forward smash, Dancing Blade) deal less damage than in Brawl.
  • Change Marth's attack trails are much brighter at the tip, making the sweetspot of his attacks more visible than in previous games.
  • Change Down aerial appears to have a somewhat tweaked animation, with the swing starting from behind Marth not in front of him.

The following attacks are visually unchanged:

Special Moves

In Super Smash Bros. 4, special moves can be swapped out for different variants, but only a few of Marth's have been seen. Marth retains all of his original special moves.
