Peach (ピーチ, Pīchi) was confirmed to be a playable character in Super Smash Bros. 4 on September 12, 2013.[1] She is among the first wave of compatible amiibo figures. She will be voiced by Samantha Kelly, although audibly through the same voice clips from Super Smash Bros. Brawl.[2]

She is the ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom in the fictional settings of the Mario franchise, and usually it is her kidnapping that acts as the driving point for the major series installments. However, she recently had a prominent playable role in Super Mario 3D World and had her own video game called Super Princess Peach.

Confirmed information

  • The following appears visually unchanged:
    • Ability to float[3]
    • Forward tilt
    • Forward smash
    • Forward aerial
    • Back aerial
    • Back throw
    • All special moves
    • All taunts

Standard Attacks

  • Dash Attack: Dash Push: strikes with both arms extended and then spreads them both out, as if "pushing". It traditionally deals two strikes. Unlike in previous installments, it now has a magic effect.[2]

Tilts

  • Forward Tilt: Split Kick: thrusts her leg in a 180 degree kick. Seems unchanged from previous installments.[2]
  • Up Tilt: Heart Stab: produces pink heart-shaped blasts of energy above her. Seems relatively unchanged, although has a somewhat tweaked animation.[1]

Smash Attacks

  • Forward Smash: Bludgeon: pulls out one of three weapons and swings it forward. Seems unchanged from previous installments, although it is unknown if the three weapons will cause different amounts of damage. The weapons are:
    • frying pan from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars[2]
    • golf club from Mario Golf
    • tennis racket from Mario Tennis
  • Up Smash: Twirl Poke: spins around with her arm extended upward. The move now spawns a ribbon around Peach, with an apparent increase in both horizontal and vertical reach.[2]

Aerial Attacks

  • Forward Aerial: Crown Smack: she takes her crown off her head and smacks forward with it. Seems unchanged from previous installments.[3]
  • Back Aerial: Butt Bump: thrusts her rear out behind her. Appears unchanged from previous installments.

Throws

  • Back Throw: Butt Blast: takes the opponent behind her, and thrusts her rear into them to knock them back. Seems unchanged from previous installments.[4]

Special Moves

In Super Smash Bros. 4, special moves can be swapped out for different variants, but Peach's have yet to be seen. Peach retains all of her original special moves. These are Peach's special moves:

  • Neutral Special: Toad: Peach equips her Toad Retainer as a shield. He absorbs the amount of damage from the attack and immediately releases it back.[5]
  • Side Special: Peach Bomber: she propels herself forward by thrusting her hip. It seems to be significantly faster than in previous installments.[2]
  • Up Special: Peach Parasol: performs an upward jump and simultaneously pulls out her parasol, jabbing those above her in the process. It can then be used as a directional glide.[2]
  • Down Special: Vegetable: Peach plucks a turnip from the ground as she does in Super Mario Bros. 2. She can then throw it.[4]

Taunts

  • Takes out and twirls her parasol. In Brawl, she would say "sweet" as she does this.
  • Dances in a taunting manner as little music notes flutter around her. She would sing a little tune similar to "Ring Around the Rosie" in Brawl.
  • Spins around once. She then winks and points with her index finger in a somewhat bent posture.

Other

  • Peach's midair jump has the same animation that it did in Brawl, but it also seems to have gained some vertical height.
  • Has a new move that generates a rainbow, though it's unclear which move it is.

Palette swaps

  • Pink (default): Peach wears her iconic pink dress, and her opal-encrusted gold crown. The gown's is the same as it was in Brawl, but with brighter colors that make it more similar to her dress in the Mario franchise.

Aesthetic changes

Like Mario and Luigi, Peach's facial structure appears more as it does in the Super Mario franchise than it has in her past Smash Bros. appearances. Additionally, her dress has been made more stylized and brighter in color, and her hair-color appears to be lighter than it was in Brawl. The ring on her hand now has an opal gem that matches her other blue gems; the broach on her chest and the one on her crown. Also, her running animation is now based on her running animation from Super Mario 3D World.[2]. She is also much more expressive.
