KO Stars (also called Knockout Stars) are "awards" for KOing opponents in the Versus Mode of Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Super Smash Bros. 4, present at the bottom of one's character selection panel. The amount of KO Stars received is dependent on the amount of opponents defeated. For example, if players KO two opponents, they receive two KO Stars each. Super Smash Bros. Melee allows players to only have 255 KO Stars at a time. Any KOs achieved after players have attained have 255 KOs will not reward them with a KO Star. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, this limit is extended to 999 KO stars.
