While strongly speculated, and considered by many people to be inevitable after being implicated as playable in the notorious Gematsu leak, he does not make a playable appearance in Smash 4, appearing instead as a part of Robin's Final Smash. According to Sakurai, he considered adding Chrom as a playable character, but denied him in favor of Robin, when he saw that he would end up another plain swordsman made redundant by Marth and Ike, while Robin provided a plethora of unique moveset options.[1] Chrom's non-playable has been heavily by criticized by the community, and Sakurai's reasonings for not including Chrom have been criticized as well, with many players arguing that Lucina, who will be playable, is a much more redundant character, since she has almost the exact same moveset as Marth.
