Origin

An Octoling in octopus form in Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion.

Octolings are the Octarian equivalent to Inklings. They appear as enemies in the single player modes of Splatoon and Splatoon 2. In the Octo Expansion DLC of Splatoon 2, Octolings became playable, and could be unlocked for multiplayer upon beating the DLC. However, despite the player controlling an Octoling in the DLC, other Octolings still appeared as enemies, albeit "sanitized" (brainwashed by the Kamabo Corporation). Octolings were also temporarily playable in multiplayer without the DLC if the player chose Team Octopus in the Squid vs. Octopus Splatfest.
