Gil, short for Gilgamesh (ギルガメッシュ, Gilgamesh), is the protagonist of Bandai Namco's The Tower of Druaga franchise.
Origin
Gil first appeared in the 1984 arcade game The Tower of Druaga. The game featured Gil traversing the titular tower's 60 floors, fighting monsters and obtaining treasure in order to rescue the shrine maiden Ki from the demon Druaga.
In Super Smash Bros. 4
Gil's Hyper Armor is the basis of a downloadable content costume for Mii Swordfighter. His original sprite in his default armor from The Tower of Druaga can also appear in Pac-Man's Namco Roulette taunt.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Gil's sprite returns in Pac-Man's Namco Roulette taunt. The Gil costume for Mii Swordfighter returns as DLC as part of Round 7 and will be available as of October 13th, 2020.

Trivia
- Gil's Mii costume reveal trailer in Ultimate contains multiple references to The Tower of Druaga:
- The first scene shows Gil ascending a set of stairs on Dracula's Castle; a staircase acts as the primary goal of each level.
- The second scene shows Gil defeating Marth in his gold costume (representing the enemy Hyper Knight) and Ridley in his green costume (representing the dragon-like enemy Quox), upon which he picks up a key. In addition to enemies from the game, this also references how on each floor, Gil must find a key that allows him to reach the staircase and clear the level.
- The final scene shows Gil approaching a metallic Stone Kirby. This represents the maiden Ki, who was transformed into a stone by Druaga and must be transformed back to finish the game. The stage shown is Mario Bros., which closely resembles the look of The Tower of Druaga with its red flooring.
