Pipes are a commonly used element in {{uv|Mario}} games, debuting in ''Mario Bros.'', which featured pipes on the sides of the playing field from which enemies would emerge. Starting with ''[[Super Mario Bros.]]'', Mario and Luigi could enter pipes themselves and be transported to another area of the level, although some pipes were purely decorative. The usage of a Warp Pipe as Mario and Luigi's on-screen appearance could be a reference to the beginning of ''{{iw|mariowiki|Super Mario 64}}'', where Mario uses one to warp to the garden of [[Princess Peach's Castle]].

{{SSB|Mario}} and {{SSB|Luigi}}'s [[on-screen appearance]]s include having a Warp Pipe rise from the ground for them to jump out of onto the stage.

{{SSB|Mushroom Kingdom}} has three Warp Pipes, two of which can be entered. A character who enters a Warp Pipe will exit one of the two others randomly, though they will not exit out of one that is blocked.

Luigi's [[Board the Platforms]] stage has three platforms contained within large Warp Pipes.

==In ''[[Super Smash Bros. Melee]]''==

Three Warp Pipes serve as platforms in {{SSBM|Yoshi's Island}}. 

During the {{b|Mushroom Kingdom|Adventure Mode}} stage in [[Adventure Mode]], Warp Pipes appear as checkpoints; if the player is [[KO]]ed, they will re-spawn at the last Warp Pipe they passed. Additionally, there is one long horizontal Warp Pipe that serves as a platform immediately after the Yoshi ambush. 

In {{SSBM|Mushroom Kingdom}}, some Warp Pipes can be seen entering into the pits; however, they are behind the field of play and have no bearing on the characters. However, in a pre-release image of the stage, it appears that Warp Pipes were intended to be used as platforms.

{{SSBB|Mario}} and {{SSBB|Luigi}}'s [[on-screen appearance]]s once again involve having a Warp Pipe rise from the ground for them to jump out off, as in the original game. 

Warp Pipes reprise their role as platforms in the returning Yoshi's Island stage, as well as being present in both versions of [[Mushroomy Kingdom]]. 

On [[Mario Bros.]], four Warp Pipes spawn and move the Sidestepper and Shellcreeper  enemies. However, these pipes are not platforms and do not directly affect the fighters.

Warp Pipes also appear in the background on two stages, namely [[Delfino Plaza]] and [[Mario Circuit (SSBB)|Mario Circuit]], and one [[Subspace Emissary]] level, [[The Ruined Zoo]].

Warp Pipes appear as both stage elements and a trophy.

{{SSB4|Mario}} and {{SSB4|Luigi}}'s Warp Pipe [[on-screen appearance]]s once again return, being practically unaltered from their appearances in ''Brawl''.

Multiple stages contain Warp Pipes as platforms, namely: [[3D Land]], in which some of the Warp Pipes move up and down; [[Golden Plains]], in both its regular and Ω form; [[Paper Mario]], in which the sole Warp Pipe springs characters upwards; certain variants of [[Super Mario Maker]]; ''Brawl's'' Mushroomy Kingdom, although only the 1-1 variant appears; and ''Melee's'' Yoshi's Island. 

Additionally, one of the drawings in [[PictoChat 2]] is a group of warp pipes placed on the floor and just inside the left, uppper and right stage boundaries. These Warp Pipes are notable due to the fact that one can enter them by crouching on top of one, which causes them to exit a different pipe.

Several stages also include Warp Pipes in the background, namely the Ω form of 3D land and the regular form of ''Brawl's'' Delfino Plaza and Mario Circuit.

Warp Pipes also appear as platforms in returning stages [[Mushroom Kingdom (SSB)|Mushroom Kingdom]], [[Yoshi's Island (SSBM)|Yoshi's Island]], Mario Bros., Mushroomy Kingdom, 3D Land, Golden Plains, Paper Mario, Pictochat 2, and Super Mario Maker. They can also be found in the background of [[Figure-8 Circuit]].

{{SSBU|Piranha Plant}} resides in a Warp Pipe in some of its [[Alternate costume (SSBU)#Piranha Plant|alternate costumes]].
