Captain Falcon performing a shield-stop in Brawl.

A shield-stop is using the shield to stop a dash animation immediately. This is particularly useful as a mindgame for running into the opponent when it is expected of the opponent to attack the player. This will then shield the attack and open up the opportunities such as shield grabbing, SHFFLing, and punishing. As with most pseudo-wavedashing techniques, the character will benefit more when their traction is lower.
