Pit possesses an above average frame data in his attacks, as his normal moveset has only one move that comes out after frame 10, which is his frame 11 forward aerial, and his set of smash attacks is very fast. He also has a solid projectile in Palutena Bow, which fires quick arrows that can be curved to various angles, he has disjointed range in his attacks with his bow, which splits into two blades for some of his attacks, and all his aerials can autocancel in a short hop, giving him a good neutral game. Pit also has two reflectors in Guardian Orbitars and Upperdash Arm, and his three double jumps and fast meteor smash in his down aerial give him a solid edgeguarding game. Lastly, his multiple mid-air jumps and Power of Flight give him a long-distanced recovery.
However, Pit has a poor disadvantage state. He's quite floaty, has low air speed, and his aerials, while versatile and decently powerful when he is advantaged or in the neutral game, lose a lot of their utility when he's in disadvantage: all his aerials except for neutral aerial come out after frame 9 and both his neutral and forward aerial suffer from poor range and glaring blindspots, as their looping hits fail to fully cover the Palutena Bow, making him vulnerable to pressure and juggles due to the poor coverage from his aerial attacks. While his down aerial is fast, he can't always rely on it to get out of danger, and his projectile requires time and a lot of skill to use at its best. Pit's recovery, while reaching long distances, is vulnerable to edgeguards, as Power of Flight can be angled but lacks a hitbox to protect him, and while Upperdash Arm can extend his recovery, it suffers from extreme ending lag if it doesn't hit anyone. He can adapt to various situations, but his combo game, range, camping ability and KO potential are outclassed by some other characters. Pit especially suffers from inconsistent KO potential, as his smash attacks have a lot of ending lag and are unsafe on shield, while his forward tilt and back aerials require him to hit with the sweetspot at the tip of the blades and his other attacks require high percents or edgeguarding to KO, and his set-ups are limited, which can make it difficult for him to finish off his opponents.
Overall, Pit is a character with a lot of good strengths and not too many weaknesses. He is an all-arounder that can get the job done in any scenario. Both Pit and his echo Dark Pit have seen some representation, with most notably Zackray, who have taken both characters to their best results at majors and supermajors in the post-pandemic era.
