I'm interested to hear if anybody can help me in digging up all the interesting things we can out of this one. As linked in the file description, this is a rip from the "preview" image used in Melee's menu UI that represents the CSS. As you can probably tell, though, it's quite different from both the final CSS and other prerelease versions, and in many ways looks more like the 64 CSS. After messing with the image's brightness and contrast, I'm pretty confident the middle 10 tiles represent the 64 roster minus Luigi and Jigglypuff, with the top row being (L-R) Fox, Mario, Yoshi, DK, Captain Falcon, and the bottom row being Link, Kirby, Pikachu, Samus, Ness. The question then becomes who the other four tiles are supposed to be. It's not quite clear given the very low resolution of the image, but the most plausible theory I could come up with was that they represent the four other characters shown off in the E3 2001 reveal, being Peach, Bowser, Sheik[/Zelda], and Ice Climbers (who also happen to round out the final starting roster). The issue is that the tiles don't neatly line up with those four, so far as I can tell. Any thoughts or things I might've missed? Miles (talk) 05:30, 26 March 2015 (EDT)

I looked at the image closely by darkening the resolution on my laptop, and it seems to me that three of the four corners represent Luigi (top left), Jigglypuff (bottom left), and Dr. Mario (top right). The only thing I can't make out is the bottom right.
Also, I think it's at least worth mentioning that, going from L-R, the four characters that are selected are Yoshi, what looks like Samus, Pikachu, and Mario. Aidanzapunksignature.pngAidan, Master of Speed and AuraAidanzapunkSignaturesmall.PNG 08:35, 26 March 2015 (EDT)
